Condolence: The first time I met David Platte there was an immediate kinship between us which grew into great love. He was enchanting, kind and generous to a fault. No one could make me laugh like David. I’ve never known a love like this, and I’m grateful for it and will carry it with me until we meet again. I will borrow from W.H. Auden as I still have no words.
”He was my north, my south, my east my west. My working week and my Sunday rest. My noon, my midnight, my talk, my song; I thought that love would last forever, I was wrong.”

Condolence: Goodbye, Old Sport. That's what we used to call each other in honor of our inspiration, the Gonzo journalist Hunter S. Thompson. I had many great memories with you, Max, from high school and your old Ford and that trusty blue VW Bug that was as indestructible as you, to your baseball and trumpet-playing days, your love of bands like Chicago, and thanks for turning me on to World Party. In college, we really came of age, and I enjoyed visiting you at Montclair. It was great to see you when you came to my house for a visit and we would have a drink together. I will miss you terribly, Old Sport. Love - Joe

Condolence: I will miss our tennis games, our long talks about life. You constant bad advice, lol, but mostly I will miss our friendship. 26 years of good and bad times, but mostly good. David was my confidant. He knew secrets and things about me that no one else knew. He always promised he would keep those secrets safe. He was right. David had a good heart and soul. He was never rich, never had much money, but he would always give to others that needed help, even though he couldn't afford to. He was a lover of music, dogs and philosophy. I think about him daily and my heart is broken. His death has left a hole is my heart that will never be filled. I get the first tennis game when I get to heaven and see you again. Love you David.
