The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Gloria Jones can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Thank you.

The lighting of a Memorial Candle not only provides a gesture of sympathy and support to the immediate family during their time of need but also provides the gift of extending the Book of Memories for future generations.

Jack Hamann, class of 1972

Gloria L. Jones (always the “L”) was the best schoolteacher I ever had. In the late ‘60s/early 70s, the world seemed insane—Vietnam. Watergate. Revolutions. Assassinations. Miss Jones, more than most, had a sublime talent for shaping our teen angst and budding activism into meaningful action and life-changing lessons. She dared us to out-think, out-work and out-maneuver our real and imagined adversaries. She was both brilliant and funny, a cunning subversive in a retro hairdo. She demanded we speak truth. In turn, she taught us to speak truth to power. She was a gifted teacher willing to share those gifts with her students. Every great teacher aspires, above all, to make a difference. Miss Jones, you made a difference.
