Jean Birtell of South Scranton died Wednesday June 6, 2018 at the Allied Hospice Center. Her husband of 56 years is Lawrence Birtell Sr.
Born in Scranton she was the daughter of the late James and Eleanor Grabowski Gilday. Educated in Scranton schools, prior to retirement she was employed in the local garment industry.
Jean’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the the nurses and staff at Allied Skilled Nursing Floor 3 South and to the Allied Hospice Center for all of their kind and compassionate care.
Also surviving are son Lawrence Jr. and wife Pamela, Pitttston; daughter Michelle Rake, Scranton; granddaughter Noelle Rake and fiancé James Searles, Pittston; great-grandson Noah Searles.
She was preceded in death by sisters Patricia Fenton and Marlene Yuskiewicz.
The funeral will be conducted on Monday from the Miller Bean Funeral Home Inc., 436 Cedar Ave. with Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00 p.m. in St. John Neumann Parish at Nativity Church, 633 Orchard St. Scranton. Internment at Cathedral Cemetery, will be private at the convenience of the family. Friends may call Sunday from 3 - 6 pm.
