MONONA - Geraldine M. Reed, age 96, died June 7, 2018 at the home of her son and daughter-in-law in Monona, Wisconsin surrounded by family. She was born at home on Touro St. on the edge of the French Quarter in New Orleans on November 21, 1921. Her parents were Rene Walters and Manuella (Morris) Walters. She grew up in the 7Th Ward of New Orleans learning to cook on a wood stove with her grandmother Philomine Walters. She is the last surviving sibling of Rene, Audrey, Wendell and Mildred. She earned money to attend beauty school by working in a suit factory. She had her own beautician practice. She met and married L. C. Reed Jr. of Marianna, Arkansas while he was stationed in New Orleans during World War II. They had 52 years of happiness together before his death. They had 3 children Lawrence C. Reed III (Mary Anne), Audrey Terrance (deceased) and Bernice Reed. She loved being Granny to Raquel (Robert) Smith, Liz Terrance, Katy (Peter Schuck) Reed, L. Clint (Bridget Prendergast) Reed IV. She was Great Granny to RJ and Remy Smith, Gabre and Bailey Moon, and Kolston and Kynzlee Magee. She dearly loved her 26 nieces and nephews, their spouses, and their children and grandchildren. She is survived by her sisters in laws Aleeta Walters, and Frances Smith, and brother in law Jerry Hodges. While Hurricane Katrina blew her up from New Orleans, her family stretched from coast to coast and from The Gambia to Japan. But her heart always remained in New Orleans. She deeply appreciated her extended and adopted family in Wisconsin. She leaves behind many who loved her and a hand- written life story with “her” own recipes.
