Obituary for Richard Timler

Richard J. Timler
Husband, father, grandfather Westfield resident, 83

Richard J. Timler, 83, of Westfield passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 13 surrounded by his loving family.

Rich was born at home in Kenilworth and spent his childhood growing up in Elizabeth.
He was a proud graduate of the Class of 1953 from Thomas Jefferson High School in Elizabeth and kept in touch with classmates attending all of the class reunions. In 1958 he joined the US Army and was stationed with his wife Priscilla at Fort Meade, MD. He was a hardworking man with a 38 year Telecommunications career with New Jersey Bell/Verizon active in the Pioneers.

In 1960 they moved to Westfield where he has resided for the past 58 years raising a family of his own and providing a wonderful life for his family. Rich was a truly talented man and if it was broken he could fix it. He was the neighborhood handyman and would help anyone who needed his help.

Throughout his life he enjoyed playing softball, bowling with NJ Bell coworkers for many years,
boating, and fishing. Later in life he kept busy taking care of his home, reading, watching sports and doing many puzzles. His children and grandchildren were a great source of pride and pleasure. He was a family man and enjoyed being with them and following their accomplishments for every stage of their lives.

Besides his parents Rich was predeceased by his loving wife Priscilla, brother Paul and son in law Rick. He is survived by his daughter Patricia Buerkle of Belle Mead, NJ, John Timler and his wife Christine of Hillsborough, Kim Lord and her husband Tim of Boyertown, PA and his cherished grandchildren Alison, Ryan and his wife Carly, Timmy, Kirstin, Jessie and Casey he was their loving Pop-Pop and will be missed dearly.

Relative and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Monday, June 18 from 4 to 8pm at Dooley Colonial Home, 556 Westfield Ave, Westfield. A funeral Mass will be offered on Tuesday, June 19 at 10:00am St. Helen’s Church, Westfield. Entombment will be in St. Gertrude’s Cemetary, Colonia.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Helen’s Church, Westfield.
