George W. Porter of North Scranton passed away on Sunday July 1, 2018 at home. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen L. Porter.
Born in Brooklyn, New York he was the son of the late James and Isabella Porter. Educated in Brooklyn schools, he proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. Prior to his retirement he was employed as a Manager for Ingersoll Rand, Scranton, PA.
Surviving are daughters Diana Purnell and Janice Porter, son-in-law Blaine Purnell, all of New York; son Andrew Porter, Scranton; grandchildren Danielle, Shannon, Andrew Jr., Matthew, Joshua, and Sean; great-grandchildren Talia and Tarik; brother William Porter; sisters Florence, Patricia, and Margaret; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by several siblings.
A blessing service will be held Wednesday July 11, 2018 at 7:00 pm in the Miller Bean Funeral Home Inc., 436 Cedar Ave. Scranton. Friends and family may pay their respects Wednesday from 5:00 pm until service time. Interment in Evergreen Cemetery, Brooklyn, New York will be private at the convenience of the family.
