The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Helen Pickens can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Thank you.

Sunday school memories

Sweet memories of "Mr. and Mrs. Pickens" are part of my best recollections of growing up as a child and youth at Grace United Methodist Church.  Side-by-side, they worked in the Sunday school department faithfully recording attendance and counting the pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters we would drop into the Sunday school offering basket.  They always greeted us with cheerful smiles and kind eyes, Helen pint-sized and Mr. Pickens towering above us.

Years later, when Helen became involved with Grace's Comfort Critters program, I was able to share with her the impression she and "Mr Pickens" had made upon me as a little child.  I witnessed again her deep and profound love for little children and her desire to make their lives better.  Along with my mom and so many others at Grace, Helen worked with the Missions Commission collecting and praying over stuffed animals which are given by law enforcement officers to little children traumatized by some of life's most difficult circumstances.

Always serving...

always thinking of others...

always lovely and kind...

always full of grace...

these are the memories I will continue to have of Helen Pickens for the remainder of my days.

My deepest sympathies to her family for their loss of one so dear.  So thankful to know that she is with the LORD Jesus and we will see her again one day soon.
