Rex and I worked together for his entire tenure at the Univeristy of Utah. We shared a lot of memorable times together and never once was Rex ever unpleasant, but always down-to-earth and humble. After all the hard work he put in and all the freinds he made over the years at the univesity, there was one time that stands out about his humble and shy nature.
One morning Rex came into my office and announced: "Well, I'm out of here" After a humours exchange with him about what he was talking about, I gathered that Rex, as of 10 a.m. that morning, had retired. He wanted no retirement cerimony, no embarassing roasting which normally goes along with a retirement cerimony, no broad announcement, etc. He just wanted me to know that he had retired. He had an increadibly great and unique sense of humor mixed with such humility that he endeared himself to everyone he met.
So, Rex, keep your sense of humor and stay humble. See you
