Thomas F. McGraw, 83, of Windsor Locks formerly of New Britain, went home to be with The Lord on Wednesday, January 9, 2019. Beloved husband of Susie McGraw, and the late Elvira (Ragazzo) McGraw, Tom was born in New Britain, the son of the late Edward and Marie (Brigandi) McGraw. Tom attended St. Mary’s School and E.C. Goodwin Technical School. Upon graduation he entered the U.S. Army and became an MP. With his keen military mind and (STRAC) appearance he was sent to Berlin, Germany and assigned as a special guard for Rudolf Hess and Albert Speer at Spandau Prison in West Germany for two years. Upon returning stateside, he entered the 76th. U.S. Army Division completing 22 years and retiring as a Sgt., First Class. Tom was the owner of The Four Seasons Beauty Salon and finished his career at the U.S. Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Newington. When Tom was younger, he enjoyed dirt bike racing locally, and throughout New England. An avid biker, Tom rode his Honda Gold Wing well into his 70’s. He also enjoyed cross country skiing, target shooting, bicycling, hiking, hunting, archery, photography and many other hobbies. In his later years, he became a Ballroom Dancer with his beloved wife and partner Susie and they would dance three or four times a week around CT and MA. Susie and Tom were great partners in life and kept each other “young” thru their group senior friends and dancing groups. Tom is survived by his wife Susie who was always there to help and assist, and the family is grateful for all that she did. His daughter Donna Marie Provera; his granddaughter, Katrina Provera; great-grandson, Roman all of FL; a son-in-law, Lee Cavanaugh and his wife, Marie and their children, Sarah and Nathan of Winsted; his brother, Edward Murtha and significant other Michelle of Newington, CT. Ed cherished his “Big brother” as Tom cherished Ed as a mentor and friend. He was always there for Ed, as Ed was for Tom. They shared a special bond as “Brothers in Arms” as well as in life that can’t be described in his story of a Life Well Lived by a man of great faith. “Cousin Tom” will be remembered by his four special close cousins, Marge Asal, Dan Bellini, and Marilyn Asal ( and predeceased by his cousin Maryann Fazzolari) and their extended families. “Well done Tom.” Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family during visiting hour on Saturday, January 12, 2019, from 1 pm to 2 pm at St. Robert’s Bellarmine Church, 52 South Elm St., Windsor Locks. A Mass of Christian Burial for Tom will be celebrated at 2 pm at the church. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Tom’s name may be made to the Disabled American Veterans Chapter # 8., P.O. Box 266 New Britain, CT 06050.
