Condolence: My condolences to Micheal's family and friends in their time of loss.I am deeply saddened by his passing. Michael had a significant impact on my life back in the 70's.He fostered and supported my early interest in the neurosciences. I was able to go on to Ph.D.,an M.D. and a successful neurological practice.I will always remember those nights and weekends in his lab. I still get a smile when I think of Leonard with those red and black spots.RIP Michael

Condolence: So sorry to hear of this sad news. I earned my neuroscience degree with Dr. Persinger-in every sense of the word. He could be intimidating, but he was always fair and just. He pushed you to attain your highest potential and would not let you back down without a fight. Even when he didnt' necessarily agree with your opinion, he rewarded you for supporting it with knowledge and empiricism. Despite all of the scientific acumen, he was a creative spirit with a great sense of humour who left an everlasting impression on me. "Earning" a degree with him is truly one of the proud achievements of my life. Thanks for pushing me to be my best, and like you once told me standing next to me at the urinal, "great minds really do think alike." ;) RIP and God Bless

Condolence: Deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Dr. Michael Persinger. My sincerest condolences to his family.

Dr. Persinger was kind and generous with his genius. He kindled even the slightest spark of sincere, scientific interest. Like so many others, I left his mentorship blessed by the experience. Forty years later, I am still motivated to make some contribution which might help to repay my indebtedness to this great man.

One can only hope that Dr. Persinger's generous spirit will be soaring, and to see that wry, amused smile of his, on that day when popular, enlightened thought catches up to the brilliance of his ideas.

Condolence: While there are certainly several instances I could point to as being influential moments in my life, my experience as a student in Dr. P’s Behavioural Neuroscience program at LU had the most profound impact on my life. My journey began the day I read LU’s Neuroscience program description online, where Dr. P stated that “the program was developed because there is a subset of students with integrative capacity who are not ‘A’ students but who are extraordinary problem solvers who love to learn.” Dr. P’s interdisciplinary approach to academics was refreshing and his philosophy of integrating the sciences “across the seven levels of discourse” was a breath of fresh air.

Thanks to Dr. P, I realized during my time at LU that an interdisciplinary field that combines Neuroscience with Law is what interests me most. Dr. P would often lament how our current legal structure is “not based in science, it’s based on (social) consensus”. Being a true man of science who strongly believed the scientific method to be our best tool for unlocking knowledge, Dr. P imagined that Neuroscience would inevitably change litigation at a fundamental level by providing a deeper insight into thought processes. Having graduated from Dr. P’s Neuro program at Laurentian, I now have my sights set towards the future where I seek a career in NeuroLaw, the newly emerging field that explores the effects that discoveries in neuroscience will have upon our legal rules and standards. I hope to commemorate Dr. P by carrying on his philosophical legacy in these pursuits.

Dr. P,

I am grateful to have had you as a mentor and I will forever cherish the memories I have of our time together. You will always be missed but never forgotten.….and even though I’m not in the Koren Helmet, I will forever sense your presence watching over me.

Condolence: We lost an incredible person... Dr Michael Persinger was a lifelong scientist who always did things his way without ever backing down, and he cared deeply about his students. I would not be where I am today without his support over the past decade. Thank you, Dr P, for being a mentor and a friend.

Condolence: I took his first year psychology class in 1993, busted my butt studying and barely scrapped by with a C grade. Since that time I went on to get a doctorate and now teach my own classes. To this day, that intro class is still the most memorable and influential class of my entire education and career. You may not have always agreed with him, you may not even have liked him at times, but he didn't care one bit whether you did, and that, is perhaps what I respected about him most. He was his own man, and encouraged in his students to know their craft and reach higher. Defending an honors thesis in front of him prepared me for anything. Thank you for setting a rigorous, high standard, while so many teachers these days just hand out high grades to keep the peace. His classes were real. I can still see him walking the halls of Laurentian on the way to his lab.
