Welcome to the Smith Funeral Home

The Smith Funeral Home was established as the J. Donald Smith Funeral Home in 1955 by J. Donald Smith in Chadwicks. It operated there until 1970 when it moved to its present facility at 3022 Oneida Street in Sauquoit. In 1976, Donald’s son, David, joined the firm and in 1998 the business was purchased by David and his wife, Lori. In 2019, Smith Funeral Home affiliated with Dimbleby Funeral Homes, Inc, a family owned four generation firm. 

The combined resources of Smith and Dimbleby funeral homes will ensure that your family’s wishes will continue to be met.

George H. Casab, 77, passed away on September 7, 2018 in the comfort of his home. He was born in Utica on March 22, 1941, a son of the late Joseph and Julia Baker Casab and was a graduate of Chadwicks High School.
George proudly served in the U.S. Navy and on March 27, 1976 was united in marriage with Sandra Gaudin, a loving union of 42 years until her death on August 3, 2018.
George was a butcher by trade and began his career working with his father at their family market in Chadwicks. He also worked for his uncle Fred at Fred’s Foodland, also in Chadwicks. George later took employment as the Deli Manager at Chanatry’s Market and prior to his retirement was employed by Roma’s in Washington Mills.
He bowled for many years in the leagues at Orchard Hall and was an avid N.Y. Yankees fan.
George is survived by his daughter; Carrie Casab of Utica, his son and daughter in law; Eugene and Michelle Casab of New Hartford, his grandchildren; Abigail and Logan Casab, his sisters and brothers in law; Rosalie and Anthony Brown and Arlene and Phillip Dahdouh, of CA., his brother and sister in law; Michael and Katey Casab, of CA., his brother in law; Leland Young, his faithful shih-tzu; Oliver, as well as nieces and nephews; Anthony and Marianne Brown of NJ, Marie and Chris Raymond of NC, Roxanne Brown, Darlene and Dean Stuttard, Melissa Young and Jerome Lalonde, Jonathan Young, Angela Dahdouh of CA, Julie and Joseph Zarzour of CA, Raymond Dahdouh of CA, Jaqueline Casab of CA, Michael "Mickey" and Rachel Casab of CA, Charles "CJ" and Sonya Casab of CA and Nicole and Chris Pollay of Troy and Sandy’s aunt and uncle; Betty and Lee Alfred.
He was predeceased by his sister Carol Ann Young on August 15, 2018 and his infant daughter; Jennifer.
George was blessed with the friendship of many of the residents of the Cherrywood Community who were supportive of him and his family during this difficult time, especially Marge and Al Roberts.
His family would like to thank Edwards Ambulance for all of their assistance and timely response when called.
George’s services will be held at the convenience of the family under the care of the Smith Funeral Home, Sauquoit.
