Obituary for Warner Guy Sublet

Print
Warner Guy Sublet was born on May 23, 1942, in Denison, Iowa, the second son to Ory Kenneth Sublet and Esther Katherine Beck. He and older brother Larry Kenneth lived with their parents in Denison on Fifth Avenue north, eventually moving to Logan, Iowa. Also, to that union was born Victor Lee who died at birth. After WWII Esther married Dale Weston Tuneberg and the four of them lived on a farm outside Ida Grove, Iowa, fondly remembered as the Goat Hollow farm. Eventually they moved back to Denison where a sister and three bother were born.

Entering the Navy in 1959, Guy served proudly until 1978 with duty stations in Quonset Point, RI, the carrier Bonhomme Richard and VXE-6, Operation Deep Freeze, to name just a few and made many trips to Vietnam as a flight engineer aboard a C-130 Hercules. As a Petty Officer 1st Class he was “piped” overboard into retirement in September , 1978.

In 1961 Guy married the love of his life, Catherine Newmeyer. She was his Navy bride and during their career they raised two boys, Chris and Chad, between cruises, deployments and assignments. In 1984 Nephew Lance came to live with the family, and was quickly considered a third son for Guy and Cathy. After retiring Guy tried his hand at several trades, becoming known as officer, Deputy and even “Captain Guy” in southern California, Oregon and Washington, finally retiring to the mountain ranch near Mariposa.

For those of us lucky enough to know him, Guy was a great friend to all who were straightforward and honest. He had little time for the untrustworthy, or unkind. He gave all a chance, but only one.

Of all the titles he earned, husband, dad and grandpa seemed to be his favorites. Guy loved his wife, boys, daughters-in-law and grandchildren. He was quick to give advice, and to help, even if you weren’t family, regardless of if you wanted it or not. He believed in God and country and shared them with those close to him.

Guy and Cathy moved from the mountain ranch to Stockton in 2012 to be closer to Chad, Madeleine, Isaiah and Hailey and travelled to Whidbey Island Washington whenever possible to visit Chris, Simone and Catherine. Cathy preceded him in death in 2016 and Guy left us to see her once again and to be with their Lord on September 9, 2018.

Surviving Guy are his sons Chris (Simone), Chad (Madeline) and nephew Lance Sublet (Yop Hui), grandchildren Catherine, Isaiah and Hailey; brother Larry Sublet (Ellen) of Monterey; brother Barry Tuneberg of Victoria, TX; sister Jefferee Julich (David) of Ft Collins CO; brother Cary Tuneberg of Denison IA and brother Darlow “Lee” (Janet) Tuneberg of Ashland, OR.
