Susan was the daughter of the late Robert J. Kirkpatrick and Elin F. Schumacher. She also had a wonderful and caring stepfather, the late Gene I. Schumacher.

She was born in Cornwall, NY. As a child she attended St. Thomas Catholic School and Church. She worked at Hotel Thayer, U.S. Military Academy West Point after she graduated from High School. She also worked many years as a Home Health Aide in Orange County New York.
