Anna E. Boucher passed away September 13, 2018 after a nine month long fight with cancer. Anna was the daughter of the late George Ewanich Sr. and the late Mary Josephine Makarewicz. She was born June 14, 1941 at St. Luke’s Hospital Newburgh, New York.

Anna graduated from Cornwall Central High School, Orange County Community College and the State University of New Paltz. Her Bachelors plus thirty hours for certification was completed at the State University College at Buffalo, New York.

Anna’s first career was as a Middle School Science Teacher. She taught at the West Point Post School, Valley Central Middle School, Amherst Central Junior High School in Snyder, New York and finally at the Washingtonville Junior High School. Her second career was to stay at home and raise her family but during that time she managed to work for a couple of years as Nature Director at the West Point Youth Camp. With the arrival of the empty nest she embarked on a career in retailing. She worked for Ann’s Hallmark Shoppe, Mid-Valley Mall; Cracker Barrel Old Country Store - Gift Shop, Fishkill and finally at Kohl’s, Newburgh. Anna’s final career was to stop working for a pay check and retire to take care of her gardens and help take care of her granddaughter.

Through the years Anna found time to do some volunteer work: Literacy Volunteers of America Eastern Orange County, tutor; American Cancer Society, neighborhood canvasser; St. Patrick’s School, CCD substitute teacher; Fostertown Elementary School and Gidney Avenue Magnet School, parents club; Jewish Family Service of Orange County, friends of seniors ride facilitator. Anna received a great deal of enjoyment and satisfaction from her volunteer work.

Anna and her husband of 53 years were married in 1964 at St. Thomas of Canterbury Church in Cornwall-on-Hudson, New York.

She is survived by her husband Irvan; daughter: Janelle Boucher of New Paltz; son: Andrew Boucher of Saitama-Shi, Japan; sister: Stephanie Ewanich of Kingston; brother: George Ewanich and his wife Elizabeth of Cornwall; granddaughter: Marina of New Paltz; nieces: Mary Ewanich of Raleigh, North Carolina and Katrice and her husband Tom Keane of Amherst, Massachusetts.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am on Thursday, September 27th at The Church of St. Patrick and St. Mary, 55 Grand Street in Newburgh, NY. Private inurnment services will follow the Mass at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Newburgh, NY.
