On Tuesday, September 18, 2018 John William Stigall, Loving husband and father of two children, passed away at the age of 75.

William was born on September 4, 1943 in Ripley, MS to the late Frank Thomas Sr. and Lela Ruth (Smith ) Stigall. He was a 1961 graduate of White Station High School in Memphis, TN. He worked for Sears, Roebuck and Co. and Michelin tire Corporation in Memphis. On February 27, 1970, he married the love of his life Wanda Jane (Greer) Stigall (of Jamestown and Memphis, TN). They raised two daughters , Melissa and Stephanie.

Willian had a passion for his family, especially his grandsons, Phillip and Jordan Roper and Brandon Arp. He loved his church and high school sports. He was known a for his love for jovial interaction with friends and family. He was dedicated to his "retirement job" at Moody Transportation. He often said he looked forward to trying to brighten the day of the clients he served.

At the age of nine he was saved and baptized at Kennedy (later named Audubon Park) Baptist Church in Memphis. He remained a member there for 56 years where he was ordained and served as a deacon for more than 30 years. For the past 2 years, he was a member of the Caney Fork Baptist Church in Cookeville.

William is survived by his wife Janie, two daughters Melissa and Stephanie, his grandsons, brother Frank Thomas Jr. (Tom), Nieces Sarah and Rachel and a nephew Tommy.


William was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Charles.


A Funeral service will be at 10:00 AM on Friday September 21, 2018 at Crest Lawn Funeral Home with the Bro. Steve Thornton officiating. Interment will follow in Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery,

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday September 20, 2018 at Crest Lawn Funeral Home.

In Lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the Caney Fork Baptist Church Building Fund.
