Life within the Dash

Mom your life was filled with challenges.  Not every mother has to face the disappointments and struggles of this life.

You are an overcomer.  You faced the challenges and never lost your faith.

              Revelation 3:21

'He who overcomes, I will grant to him to sit down with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.

1 John 5:4-5

Who is the one who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? For whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world--our faith. The smile on your face is proof of the joy that life brought.  Family was the most important to you.

You met Larry and you became a mother of two beautiful daughters, Edwina and Connie.

When you met Bob, you brought on 4 more children and you brought up as if they were your own.  You never played favorites.  You met your children at the door after school and had conversation with them before sending them to do chores and homework.  Even in the pain of watching them grow up, you were there to support them.  Never making them feel like a failure or less than anyone else.

Family time at the dinner table was also the best times for our family.  The worst meal was when you cooked Liver.  Dad Bob was the only one who liked liver, so needless to say, we did not enjoy these meals. Don’t know how you came up with the brilliant way to get rid of the liver, but you mixed the Liver with Heart.  Once we took something from the platter we had to eat it.  We tried to choose wisely and attempted to choose the heart.  I remember really studying the platter of meat and praying that I would choose correctly.

You met Jay, and had your son, James.  He was the joy of your life.  I could not imagine starting a family over again.  You loved children so much that you could not wait to have another baby.  “Crazy woman” I said.  You were so happy.  You shined when you talked about James. Yes, 20 years older and you still played with him, teased him and laughed with him.  Yes, you spoiled him too.

When you met Butch and married him in 2007.  You loved his children just like any other child.  They saw you as mom, because there was no way to deny your love for them.  You are an encourager and Butch was your love.  No one can deny the fact that you loved him and he loved you.   You both put up with the craziness of each other.  Through the years of sickness and failing health, you stood by each other.  Mom, I saw your faith grow.  You told us that “everything would be okay.”  You said that “you were not afraid”.  The last couple of years were hard on your relationship, but you keep praying for him and wanted him to know that there was more to live.  Jesus was your light, and even though it is hard when you are hurting, His light would shine in you.

Isaiah 43:2. "When you go through deep waters, I will be with you."

Romans 8:18. "The pain that you've been feeling, can't compare to the joy that's coming."

Mom was the proverbs 31 women:

She was worth more than rubies (priceless)

She brought her husband good and not harm (speech was never to tear down; but to lift up)

She worked hard and raised many children (not just her own)

She was strong (worked hard in the fields and raising children)

She extended her arms to those in need (there was always a hug waiting)

She had no fear (no fear of life or death)

She spoke with wisdom and faithful Godly advice (Never wavered)

Her beauty shined on the outside (Look at that smile)

She gave honor and praise to her creator and boasted in Christ. (she knew where her hope came from)

Family members may have missed years without contact, but when they called her, it was as if no time was lost.  Mom did not change in the love you had for family.  She never asked why the calls stopped.  Never shed an ounce of guilt.

When you found out that lung cancer had attacked your body, you shined in the light of Jesus.  You are a survivor and you pulled through.  Cancer free for several years and then the brain cancer hit.  You fought like a trooper.  God has blessed many of us with the opportunity to see you in through your greatest struggle and had the time of their life.  Seeing you gave hope to the hopeless.  You never spoke about death, just about moving on.  You knew that you would spend eternity with Jesus.

Let me leave you with one last scripture.  This scripture describes Jackie the most.

John 13:34  “I give you a new commandment: that you should love one another.  Just as I have loved you, so you too should love one another.
