Obituary for Diana Kaye Omundson - Riese
Diana Kaye Omundson, the daughter of John and Myrtle (Simonsen) Omundson, was born June 16th, 1959 in Estherville, Iowa. She passed away Saturday, September 8th, 2018 at the Banner Thunderbird Hospital in Glendale, AZ at the age of 59.
Diana grew up in Estherville, Iowa, attended public schools and graduated from Estherville High School in 1977. She made many friends along the way and kept those friendships throughout her life. Her friendships were important to her so she never missed a class reunion. She continued her education and attended Iowa Lake Community College, graduating in 1979.
After college, Diana then moved to Des Moines, Iowa where she worked at Banker’s Life, an insurance company, ultimately transferring to Arizona. She met Larry Riese, dated for some time, then married on June 20, 1991 in Maui, Hawaii. She was known as Diana Omundson-Riese.
Looking for new adventures, Diana went to school for travel and became a travel agent meeting lots of people and doing Mexican and Caribbean tours. Eventually she ended up at the Post Office becoming a mail carrier for the Sun City Main Post Office, never knowing this would be her favorite job. She became a Union Steward to support and represent her co-workers that had grievances. Diana had a total of 16 years of service with the Post Office. She loved her work and continued making close friends not only in the Post Office but along her delivery route.
Diana was devoted to her family and friends. She loved organizing get togethers: holidays, weekend adventures with her sisters and friends and special events at the Post Office like retirement parties and food drives. Diana was an animal activist that loved her Boston Terrier babies, Bernice and Kenzie.
Diana had a passion for life. She loved cheering on the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday afternoons, traveling the country up the California coast with her husband on their motorcycle and riding a hot air balloon greeting the Arizona sunrise.

Those in the immediate family left to honor her memory include her husband, Larry Riese; father, John Omundson of Casa Grande, Arizona; sisters, Debra Omundson (a twin) of Casa Grande, Arizona; Kim Waskosky and her husband, Brian of Scottsdale, Arizona; Lisa Mignolet and her husband, Marc of Phoenix and one nephew, Alexandre. She is also survived by stepdaughters, Michelle Limones and her husband, Robert of Yuma Arizona; Brandi Riese of Omaha, Nebraska; 4 step granddaughters, Michelle, Jenna, Ashley, Alison; one step grandson Dillon.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Myrtle Bernice Omundson.
