John Thomas Lomax Jr. of Dorchester, passed away September 22, 2018 at the age of 81 at the Hebrew Rehabilitation Center in Brookline. Beloved father and grandfather, John was preceded in death by his wife, Esther Marie (Morring), and his son, Kevin. John is survived by his son Kenneth and daughter-in-law Afsaneh, and daughter LaTasha, his closest friend, Geneva Lynch, who was also his trusted care-giver and who cared for him throughout his extended hospital stay.

He was grandfather to Kenneth’s children Devin, Darius, and Alexandra and LaTasha’s daughter Savannah. John, born June 19, 1937, and raised in Mt. Carmel, SC, was son to John Sr. and Mary (Parks) Lomax. He was the oldest of two brothers and six sisters. John was a surrogate father to the Lynch family, Kirby, Jeffrey, Angela, Tina, and India, also a foster parent to Karmen Ball, Khalila Lynch, Keanu Lynch, and Shaquan Lomax-Lynch.

John relocated to Boston when he was 20 years old. Soon after, he met and married his wife Marie. Over his career, John owned and operated a bakery, co-operated a rubbish disposal company, drove tractor trailer trucks, owned and operated a restaurant, and co-owned and operated food service trucks.

In his most recent years prior to hospitalization, John most enjoyed sitting on the porch at his home on Wolcott St, talking with friends and family and observing the activities of the neighborhood. He shared those joyful times on the porch together with his closest friend, Geneva Lynch, who was also his trusted care-giver and who cared for him throughout his extended hospital stay.

A Viewing will be held on Friday September 28, 2018 from 10:00 to 11:00am followed by Funeral Service at 11:00 O’clock at Riley-Antoine Funeral Home, 171 Humboldt Ave., Dorchester, MA 02121.

Interment: Oak Lawn Cemetery, Roslindale, MA
