Mary Lesik passed away peacefully on September 26, 2018 at the age of 90 years.
Mary was born in Vilna, AB, on her family farm. She attended Kildonan School in her youth, moved to Edmonton in 1944, and worked at Swift’s Canadian Packing Plant and Canada Packers. In July 1948 she married Fred Lesik and they moved to Vancouver where she worked at a fruit canning plant until their daughter Karen was born in 1950. Shortly afterward the family returned to Edmonton and moved into their first home built by Fred. In Edmonton, Mary worked for The Bay for 22 years until her retirement in 1998. Her retirement years were filled with many happy experiences travelling to many exotic locations.
Mary is survived by her four children, Karen, Garry (Dorothy), Dale and Dennis (Karen); grandchildren, Sherri, Lori, Darren, Jaime, Jesse, Tiffany, Jeffrey and Jonathan; and great-grandchildren, Sharissa, Ryan, Kaelee, Aivree, Emerson and Taylor. Predeceased by her father, Mike Makar; mother, Pearl Makar (Hrynyk); brothers, Metro and Peter Makar; sister, Anne Ketsa; and her husband, Fred Lesik.
Divine Liturgy Thursday, October 4 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Basil’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, 7007 – 109 Street with interment in St. Anthony’s Cemetery.
