Catherine James, 87, of Ewing died Monday, October 1, 2018 at home. Ms. James was born November 5, 1930 in Salley, SC, where she was a former member of the Oakey Springs Baptist Church. She had resided in Ewing for the past 8 years. She was employed at Princeton University for 20 years as an administrative assistant with the Economics Department. Catherine loved sewing, gardening, cooking, traveling, and being social. She loved nothing more than her family especially her children and grandchildren. She was an avid reader of the Bible. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to many. She will be dearly missed.

Daughter of the late Ida Mae James and Hammond Kaufman; mother of the late Dannie, Earthaleen, Frank Jr., Lewis, and David “Ronnie” Garvin; sister of the late Louis C. James, Marie M. Logan, Quincy Robinson, Shirley Ann Staley, and Flossie Heinz; she is survived by her 4 children, Alberta Garvin-Wright, Harmon Jeff Garvin, Samuel Garvin Clancy (Patrick Clancy), and Wanda Garvin; 8 grandchildren: Dannie Jr., Torrie (Shannon), Phyllis, Kyle, and Mekhi Garvin, Chad, Erin, and Shane Clancy (Courtney); 6 great grandchildren, twins, Madison and McKayla, Torrie Jr. “TJ”, Taylor, and Aaron Garvin, and Kirsten Barany; 4 siblings, Ida Lee Jordan, Rosa M. Hicks (Andrew), Robert Ethrig (Verna), and Genevieve Huffman; a dear friend, Delores Hall; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, October 8, 2018 at 11:00 AM at the Divine Mercy Parish (Holy Cross), 218 Adeline St., Trenton, NJ. Family and friends may call Sunday from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Parkside Brenna-Cellini Funeral Home, 1584 Parkside Ave., Ewing, NJ and Monday morning from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the church prior to mass. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery, 1800 Hamilton Ave., Hamilton, NJ.
