George Francis Stewart, 86, of Middletown, New Jersey and most recently The Villages, Florida, passed away October 1, 2018 at Cornerstone Hospice in The Villages.
Born August 18, 1932 in New York City, George grew up on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. He graduated from Manhattan College in 1955.
He was married to the love of his life, Ethel Helen George on August 20, 1955 at St. Monica’s Church in Manhattan. George and Ethel settled in Middletown, New Jersey with their three children, Cathy, Sean and Melanie. They were married for 55 years.
Dad served in the US Army Reserves. Professionally he worked for General Electric, Tally and D.I.D before he started his company, National Data Products. George collaborated with Ethel in running their company NDP for over 32 years.
“Pa-Pa & Ya-Ya” as they will always be lovingly known, shared a beautiful life before Ethel passed away in 2010. They cherished spending time with their nine grandchildren and traveling extensively, including visiting Dad’s ancestral home of Bohocogrum in County Kerry, Ireland several times.
Dad embraced a healthy and active lifestyle and was passionate in all that he did. Skiing, hobie cat sailing, playing tennis, cycling, and ballroom dancing were some of his passions. He was a lifelong learner, who enjoyed reading and taking college classes long after retirement. He took great pride in mentoring and sharing his knowledge with everyone who sought his abundant wisdom. He had strong faith and a kind heart.
George is predeceased in death by his loving wife Ethel Stewart. His three children survive him: Melanie Arnott and husband Scott of Brielle, NJ; Sean Stewart of Atlantic City, NJ; and Catherine Stewart of Lawrenceville, NJ as well as daughter-in-law Janine Stewart of Brick, NJ. Papa leaves many joyous memories for his nine grandchildren: Sean Arnott, Griffin Arnott and Jason Arnott of Brielle, NJ; Samantha Stewart, Erin Stewart, Ian Stewart and Kyle Stewart of Brick, NJ; Lindsey Ilchert of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and Connor Ilchert of Lawrenceville, NJ.
George enjoyed the last 6 years in The Villages, Florida with his special companion Natalie Weiss. They enjoyed dancing and traveling together, enjoying a trip to South Africa just last year. George (Pa-Pa) Stewart lived his life “young at heart” until the very end.
A memorial gathering will be held on Sunday, October 14 from 10:00 am – 12:00 noon at Orender Family Home for Funerals in Manasquan, NJ.
