Dimple Lucille (Cowan) Sherrill passed away on September 28, 2018. She was living at the NHC Nursing Home in Sparta, Tennessee at the time of her passing.
She was a loving, caring and wonderful mother and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
She was born and raised in Cookeville on June 27, 1934 to Ben and Harvie Cowan, and after graduating from high school she married James Curtis Sherrill and relocated to Indianapolis where they pursued their careers and raised their family.
She loved gardening, making quilts, fishing trips with her family, raising and caring for animals, her vocation, and reading Agatha Christie mysteries.
Dimple retired from the U.S. Naval Avionics Facility (now Raytheon) in Indianapolis as a Microelectronics Technician and was dedicated to her work and was proud to be recognized by the US Navy for her contributions to numerous classified defense programs.
She was preceded in death by her husband James Curtis Sherrill; sisters Alma Cowan Cunningham and Opal Cowan Allen; and brothers David Cowan and Charles Cowan.
She is survived by her three children; Lori Sherrill-Pfahler and husband David Pfahler of Cookeville; James C. Sherrill, Jr., and husband Jimmy Owen of Dallas, Texas; and Barry Sherrill of Greenwood, Indiana. She also had three grandchildren: Amanda Sherrill Dransfield and husband Joe Dransfield of Indianapolis; Isabella Marie Sherrill and Barry Sherrill II of Greenwood, Indiana. She also leaves two great-grandchildren: Alexandra Dransfield and Ross Dransfield of Indianapolis.
Dimple is also survived by her sister Dorotha Brodhag of Cookeville; brother Earl Cowan and wife Sylvia of Cookeville; and brother/sister-in-law Junior and Betty Sherrill of Cookeville.
In addition, she leaves behind several cherished nieces, nephews, and their children on both the Cowan and Sherrill sides of her family.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the Station 3 staff at the NHC Nursing Home in Sparta, Tennessee for all they did for her during her brief stay with them. The extraordinary attention they showed her was above and beyond the scope of their jobs and it was evident every day in the special love and care they demonstrated.
Per her wishes, a private celebration of her life was attended by her family and internment took place at the Double Springs Cemetery in Double Springs, Tennessee.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to any no-kill animal shelter throughout the U.S.
