Summer Fun at Port Dover

In the 1980s and early 1990s Veronica and I used to take our kids ( Michael, Dawn, Andrew, Denise, Katie and Dustin) to Port Dover to enjoy the sun and the sand. We were a bit of a sight......two very tall women with six long, lean, blonde-haired, blue-eyed, beautiful children dragging towels, coolers, balls, sunscreen, and beach umbrellas teasing each other from the car to the chosen spot on the beach. The trip always included a picnic lunch on the beach, french fries and golden glow at the hot dog stand later in the day and a Hewitts cone on the way home. As the kids played in the water, Veronica and I enjoyed our coffee out of our thermos and fantasized about eating at a restaurant in Port Dover without sand in our food. One Saturday we decided to venture off to Port Dover unaware that this was a Saturday following Friday the 13th. It was a grand adventure..we met many people of all ages, some sleeping on the beach, some enjoying their beer on the sand, some enjoying breakfast at Knetchels and one young woman declaring that Port Dover was a nudist beach despite the warnings from the local police. All of our kids learned something that day....perhaps life lessons? Our friend Veronica taught all of us many things. She was a model of kindness and compassion. She often reminded us that to have a friend, you have to be a friend. Thanks Veronica, for being a friend to the Hall family!
