Obituary for Robert A. Dacey

Print
Robert Allen (Bob) Dacey, 85, of Longmont, passed away on Friday, October 5, 2018 at Longmont United Hospital. Bob was born on September 22, 1933 in Cleveland, Ohio to Elmer and Martha (Feldt) Dacey. He attended Cleveland public schools and was an Honor Graduate from East Technical High School in 1951. He enrolled in the Cleveland Institute of Art (CIA), pursuing a major in Design. His college education was interrupted by service in the Army at the G-4 Division, Com-Z Headquarters in Orleans, France. Upon his discharge in 1955, he returned to CIA to complete his studies.

In 1959, Bob and his wife ventured to Boulder, Colorado to escape the confined and polluted urban lifestyle of Cleveland. After arriving, he enrolled in the University of Colorado for additional study in Fine Arts. Bob had an award-winning career in marketing, advertising, public relations, graphic design, and communications. In more recent years he had served as a National Consumer/Patient Representative to Food and Drug Administration Advisory Committees focusing on cardiovascular disease and diabetes. His contributions were in the areas of Patient Information/Education and Biomedical Ethics. Bob also served a two year term as National President of The Mended Hearts, Inc., a heart surgery/heart disease patient/family support group affiliated with the American Heart Association.

On New Year’s Eve in 1991, Bob married Jane Griffin, a “Southern Lady” whom he had met through their mutual participation in The Mended Hearts organization. Jane was a devoted and loving care-giver to Bob during his final years.

Bob has written extensively on health, medical, professional, consumer, community-based growth management, public/private sector partnerships, the arts, and patient education issues. He was a frequent contributor of Opinion pieces to the Longmont Times Call, his latest article relating his experiences on and after 9/11/01 while he was in Washington, DC for an FDA meeting.

As a professional artist, Bob exhibited and marketed his drawings, paintings, and mixed media renderings at various locations around Boulder County. Most of his works focused on the monuments of Boulder County’s mining and agricultural past. His artistic crowning achievement was the publication in 2017 of his book MEMORIES OF BOULDER COUNTY through the Art and Words of Robert Dacey.

Robert is survived by his wife Jane; his sons Christopher and Patrick (Chuck Bloom); his grandchildren Jennifer, James, and Christina; his great grandchildren Beautiful, Orion, Mackenzie, and Emma Kay; and his sister Diane Unocic. He was predeceased by his parents, his first wife, Rose, and his daughter Kelley (Dotson Smith).

A memorial service will be held at the Ahlberg Funeral Chapel in Longmont on Saturday November 3rd at 2 pm. Cremation entrusted to Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory.
