TAVARES, DINIS ANDRADE –
BORN MARCH 10TH, 1947 IN SANTA MARIA, AZORES
Dinis, came to Canada on Christmas Eve 1964 in search of a better life. He had the spirit of a true trailblazer. He eventually settled into Woodstock in 1967 and brought his extended family over to call Canada Home. Dinis, became a pillar of the Portuguese Community, he was an experienced Welder in his youth working years at FMC Link-Belt and eventually Established Southside Mini Market before he retired due to failing health. He enjoyed his family more than anything else, he loved to embrace family gatherings, make people laugh and enjoyed being an inventor and executor of his ideas. After a brave and brief battle with Cancer, he leaves behind his beloved wife Deolinda Paiva Tavares of 50 years. Cherished father of Aaron Tavares and Buffy (Dennis) Tavares-Ellis. Loving grandfather of Eric Ellis. Dear brother of Maria (Gabriel) Mederios and brother-in-law of Matilda (Jack) Petrie, Venilia Jaoquim and Hediuno (Evangelina) Paiva. Dinis will always be remembered by his many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbours. Predeceased by his mother Silva Andrade Tavares and by his father João “John” Tavares. Friends and relatives are invited to join the family at the Brock and Visser Funeral Home, 845 Devonshire Ave., Woodstock, 519-539-0004 on Saturday October 13, 2018 from 4 – 8pm, where the funeral service will be held in the chapel on Sunday at 2:00 pm.
