March 24, 1939-Oct. 21, 2018
Age: 79
Residence: Eaton
Jane Miller, of Eaton, died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2018, at Pathways Hospice in Loveland.
Jane was born March 24, 1939, in Greeley to Conrad and Mildred Nelson. Her twin brother, Jim, was born a few hours later, on March 25.
Jane grew up on a farm northeast of Greeley. She graduated from College High School in Greeley, graduating a year early because teachers sent her straight from second to fourth grade. She was both a good student and an accomplished singer and pianist.
In her teens, she met and started dating Robert Miller, who lived just west of the Nelson farm with Gust and Virginia Winberg. The couple was married in 1957, and had three children by 1962.
Jane was a farm wife through and through, breaking barriers along the way. She was among the first women to drive a truck to the local sugar beet receiving stations.
Jane was deeply involved in the family farm, from truck driving to tractor work to paperwork.
After her children were all in school, Jane returned to college, graduating in 1970 with a teaching degree from the University of Northern Colorado. She was a substitute teacher around the area until she was in her 70s.
Jane loved music throughout her life. She sang in the choir at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Greeley, and sang at countless weddings and funerals in the Greeley area.
In addition to being mom to her own children, Jane was a mom or grandmother to the children of relatives and friends, and many years college and school friends gathered around the Thanksgiving table.
Jane was preceded in death by her parents, brother and husband.
She is survived by her sister, Ann, of Greeley; children, Scott Miller (Kay) of Gypsum, Kristy John, of Ault, and Kay Albert, of Eaton; grandchildren, Thomas John of Loveland, Virginia Miller of Colorado Springs and Tia Jones of Boise, Idaho; great-grandsons, Samuel John, of Loveland and Christian Lee, of Boise; numerous nieces, nephews, and all those who called her “mom” or “grandma.”
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 1, 2018, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1865 14th Ave., Greeley.
In lieu of flowers, donations are encouraged to Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1865 14th Ave., Greeley, Colo. 80631, or Pathways Hospice, 305 Carpenter Road, Fort Collins, Colo. 80525.
