Merton Darrell Bennett, also known as Mert was born in Boston, MA to Merton and Constance Bennett on December 24, 1924.
Merton immigrated to Barbados, West Indies to be with his grandparents and family for a period of time and he received his education there. Merton worked as an apprentice Engineer at the Sugar Cane Factory, before returning to Boston to further his education with his parents. Merton met and married his late wife the beautiful Hortensia Nunez Bennett who immigrated from Cuba to America.
Merton also worked in Electronics field on television repairs before accepting a job at the Raytheon Company. He was also very involved in the choir and active in his church for many years. Merton maintained his religious upbringing by his family and was the link to all the family members who he loved dearly. He loves playing golf, which he did on his downtime.
Merton always found time to be with his family and friends during the summer months. He connected with most of his family and friends two weeks ago not knowing he would not be with them. He reminded them of his age and his birthday that was coming up very soon. He also wished them good health and asked them to keep in touch.
Merton was one of five children, his siblings are all deceased; Helen Brown, William Bennett, Crispen Bennett, and Gloria Scales, all from Boston, MA .
He leaves to mourn his nieces and many family members and devoted friends. May he rest in heavenly peace!
A Viewing will be held on Friday, November 2, 2018 from 10:00 to 11:00am followed by Funeral Service at 11:00 O’clock at St. Cyprian's Church 1073 Tremont Street, Roxbury, MA 02120.
