Ruth Drayton Woodward, 92, of Loveland, CO passed peacefully on Monday. October 29, 2018 at UCHealth Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland.
Ruth was born in Mishawaka, IN on January 4, 1926. Her family moved many times as she was growing up, finally settling in Coldwater, MI in 1939. There she met Douglas Woodward and they were married on June 11, 1944. In 1968 they purchased a flower store. Ruth attended and graduated from the American Floral Art School in Chicago as a master designer. In 1970 they sold the flower store and moved to Greeley, CO where they lived for two years before moving to Loveland in 1972. After settling in Loveland, Ruth began studies in Anthropology at Colorado State University in Ft. Collins, CO and spent several summers working on archeological digs. Throughout the years she was active in many local organizations, the Marine Corps League and was Master Falconer.
Ruth is preceded in death by her husband Douglas in 1996 and is survived by her children: Charles Woodward of Granite Falls, NC and his wife Carolyn; Theresa (Taffy) Mercer of Kennewick, WA and her husband Gene; and Kent Woodward of Loveland and his wife Peggy. By four grandchildren; Nathan Woodward of Concord, NC; Micah Mercer of Kennewick, WA and his wife Leeanne; Michael Woodward of Charlotte NC and his wife Jen; and Matthew Mercer of Kennewick, WA and his wife Leslie and by four great grandchildren, Haven Mercer, Hunter Mercer, Noah Mercer and Jasper Mercer, all of Kennewick, WA. A brother David Drayton of Cameron, NC.
A memorial service will be held at the LaQuinta Inn in Loveland on Saturday November 10th from 1-3 pm. In lieu of flowers Ruth requested that donations be made to the CSU Anthropology Field School Scholarship Fund. Donations can be made at https://advancing. Colostate.edu/ANTHROPOLOGY.
