Obituary for Todd D. Hartman
Todd Hartman, 53, of the East Mountain section of Scranton died peacefully at home on Friday, December 7, 2018 in the arms of his loving wife of 28 years, the former Colleen Meehan.
Born in Scranton, he is the son of Theresa Sullivan Hartman and the late James Hartman. Todd is a graduate of Scranton Technical High School, Class of 1983. Prior to his illness he was a member of the Local Union #158 Heavy Highway Workers and was a manager for Pennsylvania American Water. He proudly served as President of the East Mountain Residents Association and ran the local children’s fishing derby at Mountain Lake for over two decades. He served as a school director for the Scranton School District for several terms and was instrumental in the construction of John G. Whittier School and Scranton High School. He was a Gold Member of the Waldorf German American Federation and a founding member of “The Garage.”
He was a loving husband, father, brother, son and uncle and he will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Also surviving are three children, daughter, Nicole Marie Hartman, a junior at the University Of Pittsburgh and son, Ryan Todd Hartman, a junior at Scranton Preparatory School and step son, Mark Gruszkiewicz whom Todd considered as one of his own, all of Scranton; Sister Colleen Sullivan Lynch and husband Tom, New Hampshire; brothers Kevin Sullivan and wife Barbara, Georgia, James Hartman and wife Colleen, New Jersey, Patrick Hartman and wife Anne, Scranton, Thomas Hartman and wife Desiree, Mayfield; sisters-in-law Mary Pat Cunningham and husband Al, Peckville, and Erin Soroka, Moosic; mother-in-law Joan Meehan, Scranton; canine companion Stella and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father-in-law William Meehan.
Todd was a man of deep integrity. His word was his bond. Todd took great pride in building a beautiful home for his family. He enjoyed entertaining family and friends around the pool in the summer and the fireplace in the winter. Todd was extremely proud of his children and their many accomplishments. His love and devotion to his wife was palpable and they looked forward to spending their golden years together.
Toddie, I will love and miss you forever. You were the most brave and strongest man I have ever known. It was my privilege to be your wife and take care of you. Sleep tight, my darling, until we meet again.
The funeral will be conducted on Saturday from the Miller Bean Funeral Home Inc., 436 Cedar Ave. with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in Immaculate Conception Church 801 Taylor Ave, Scranton. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. Friends and family may pay their respects Friday from 5-8 pm. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Citizens Bank 702 Cedar Ave. Scranton, PA 18508 C/O the Hartman Family Benefit Fund.
