Obituary for Juan M Ortiz
Juan M. Ortiz, 90, died Tuesday February 12, 2019 at St Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Kansas. He was born February 8, 1929 in Panna Maria, Texas the son of Julio Ortiz and Zeferina Molina.
Mr. Ortiz was born in Panna Maria, Texas. He married Dolores “Lola” Sanders on April 1950 in Karnes City, Texas. They moved from Lorenzo Texas to Garden City in 1963. He was a hard worker only retiring four years ago at the age of 86. He started out in the family cotton gin operation, later working at Producers, Buffalo Mills Foundries (previously Sooby’s Foundries) as a Foreman, maintenance at Garden City Community College and most recently at Wal-Mart. He was a talented vocalist and guitar player. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and various catholic choirs, as well as a founding member of the Cursillista movement in Garden City. He taught many of his nieces and nephews how to play the guitar.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wife-Dolores “Lola” S. Ortiz, Son- Henry Ortiz, and Siblings- Carmela Cordoway, Jesse Ortiz, Esperanza Serenil, Felix Ortiz, Dominga Benitez, Irma Rodriguez, Julio Ortiz. Jr & 3 infant siblings.
