Obituary for Roderick George Belanger Jr.

Roderick George Belanger, Jr. of Myrtle Beach, SC, formerly of Warsaw, VA, passed away on Wednesday, March 27, 2024. He was born on November 8, 1943 in Beverlyville, VA to Roderick George Belanger and Helen Priscilla Lewis.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Cathy Gallagher Belanger; his devoted daughter, Terri Belanger Bryant of Northern Virginia; his son, Michael A. Belanger and his wife Candace of Myrtle Beach, SC; his beloved grandchildren: Madison, Mylee, Savannah, and Blake.

Rod served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan at Kadena Air Force Base. When he returned home, he went to work at Virginia Elastic Corp., which later became H. Warshow and Sons. He remained there until his retirement.

After retiring, he moved to Myrtle Beach, SC to enjoy golf, fishing, and hunting for sharks teeth, which was his passion.

Rod loved spending time with his friends and family and walking the beach. In his younger years, he was an avid hunter, a very competitive pool player, pro bass fisherman, and extremely competitive golfer which he enjoyed with his many friends and co-workers. Rod lived a long wonderful life and was loved by his many friends and family. A visitation and gathering of family and friends will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at Welch Funeral Home, Marks Chapel.

Burial at Warsaw Baptist Church will be private.
