Obituary for Georgina Mallais

MALLAIS, GEORGINA (1921 - 2015) - Georgina Mallais, 94, of Shediac, NB and formerly of Moncton, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family and friends on Thursday, February 12th, 2015 at the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont UHC. Born on January 23rd, 1921 in Tracadie-Sheila, NB, she was the daughter of the late Peter Ferguson and Olive (St. Pierre) Ferguson. Georgina was affectionately known as “grand-maman” to so many, way beyond her own grand-children and family! She enjoyed a full and happy life and was devoted to her family. A proud home-maker, wife, mother, grand-mother and great-grand-mother, she especially liked cooking and baking for family and friends. Unable in recent years to spend as much time in the kitchen as previously, she enjoyed passing on her recipes and overseeing preparations for family events, especially for her favourite Christmas cookies and meat pies. A devout Catholic, she was forever reminding the “students” in her life that she was praying for success in their studies. A gentle and quiet woman, she was always ready for a good game of cards and she so loved to win. She is survived by five children: Gérard (Corinne) of Moncton; Father Jean-Bernard of Richibucto; Rollande Pouliot (Jean) of Carignan, QC, Cécile Mallais (Denis Losier) of Cap-Pelé and Monique Imbeault (Bernard) of Shédiac; one son-in-law, Claude Gagnon (late Nicole) of Moncton ; 14 grandchildren: Marc Gagnon (Solange), Madeleine Gagnon, Stéphanie Pouliot (Darren), Karoline Pouliot-Testasecca (Mario), Charles-André Pouliot (Audrey), Joshua Guitard (Robyn), Jessica Guitard, Andrée-Pascale Losier, Inouk Imbeault (Amber), Nisk Imbeault (David), Elki Imbeault (Nadia), Iris Imbeault (Alfred), Samuel Imbeault (Stéphanie) and Jacob Imbeault; eight great-grandchildren: Myriam, Jérémie and Audrey Gagnon; Benjamin and Mattéo Imbeault; Léora, Ludovick and Romy Imbeault; Sebastiano, Sophie and Isabelle Pouliot-Testasecca; one sister, Jeanne d’Arc Arseneau of Moncton; two sisters-in-law, Sr. Cécile Mallais of St-Basile, NB and Rose Mallet of Fredericton, NB , as well as many nieces and nephews. Georgina will also be deeply missed by close family friends Cathy and Walt Draper from Ottawa and their daughters Maggie and Carly (Brian Barbato), who thought of her as a second mother and grand-mother, having participated in most family functions with her. As well, she leaves behind Hilda Brudkowski, Myra Tabares, Maria LeBlanc and Janice Leger who were like family to her and the family appreciated all they did for her. She was predeceased by her husband Irénée (2010), one daughter, Nicole Gagnon (2012); two sisters & brothers-in-law: Beatrice & Frank Duff, Bernadette & Césaire Breau; and three brothers & sisters-in-law: Aurèle & Stella Ferguson, Alcide & Jeannette Ferguson and Peter & Madeleine Ferguson. Visitations will take place at Frenette Funeral and Cremation Centre, 88 Church Street, Moncton (506-858-1900) on Friday, March 13th, 2015 from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm, as well as Saturday, March 14th, 2015 from 9am until time of departure for the funeral mass to be celebrated at 11:00 am at Christ-Roi R.C. Church, 300 Dominion Street, Moncton. Committal will take place at Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery in the summer. In memory of Georgina, contributions to the CHU Dumont Foundation or to the Christ-Roi church would be appreciated. www.frenettefuneralhome.com
