Obituary for Norman Melanson

MELANSON, NORMAN - It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden death of Norman Melanson of Haute Aboujagane. Norman passed away at the age of 83 years at the Dr. Georges L. Dumont University Hospital Centre, Moncton on Thursday, April 21, 2011 surrounded by his family. Born in Fitchburg, Mass., he was the son of the late Romuald and Lina (Léger) Melanson. He was a construction worker prior to his retirement and past president of the Haute Aboujagane Club de l'âge d'or. He was an avid card player, bird watcher, and a great Montréal Canadiens hockey fan. He will be sadly missed by his beloved wife of 61 years Rita (Richard) Melanson, his loving children: Rose LeBlanc (Gilles) and Carmen Gagnon (Gilles) both of Grand Barachois, Victor (Georgine LeBreton) of Shediac and Lise Soucoup (Edwin Corcoran) of Moncton; his adoring grandchildren: Janelle (Chris), Cynthia, Denis (Chantal), Chris Cormier (Nathalie) and Mathieu LeBlanc and great grandchildren: Joshua and Megan. He is also survived by his brothers: Henri (Anita) and Omer (Fernande) both of Haute Aboujagane and Léo of Moncton and by his sisters-in-law: Lorraine Boudreau, Georgie Melanson and Jeannine Melanson and by many nieces, nephews and friends. He is predeceased by several brothers and sisters: Alcide, Roger, Roméo, Arthur, Rolande Ouellet and Rose LeBlanc. The family will receive relatives and friends at Frenette Funeral Home Ltd., 396 Main St., Shediac, N.B. E4P 2G1 (532-3297) on Monday, April 25th from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday, April 26th, from 9:30 a.m. until time of departure 10:35 a.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated at Sacré Coeur Roman Catholic Church, Haute Aboujagane on Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at 11 a.m. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
