Obituary for Barry Sullivan

SULLIVAN, BARRY - After a courageous battle with cancer, with his best friend and wife at his side, Barry Sullivan passed away at home on Sunday, January 12th, 2014. Barry was born on September 13, 1939 in Brighton, East Sussex, England to the late John and Olive (Tullett) Sullivan. He was employed in England and Canada working predominantly for McDonnell Douglas (Boeing) and various engineering companies. Barry was very involved in his community and was a dedicated member of the Masonic Temple Saint John Lodge #2, was a Past Master of the Saint John Lodge, was also a member of the York Right Bodies, and received the Order of Merit from the Sovereign Great Priory of Canada. Barry was also involved with Kiwanis, the Royal Canadian Legion and with various fundraisers for charities. He was an avid sports fan, enjoying golf, curling, coaching his daughters’ softball team, table tennis, snooker and pool. His family was shocked and devastated by his unexpected death. Barry is survived by his loving wife of over 50 years Carmel Sullivan (Hinkley) of Saint John; his children Teresa Sullivan (Shirley Rae) of Moncton; Michele Danaher (Allen) of Burlington, ON; and John Sullivan at home; one sister Joyce Coleby (Ron) and sister-in-law Breda Sullivan both of Brighton, England; two precious granddaughters Danielle and Kendra and one very special great granddaughter Gabriella; several nieces and nephews in England and many friends. Besides his parents, Barry was predeceased by his brother John “Jim” Sullivan and his faithful canine companion Casey. Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424). By request there will be no visitation. A private tribute by the Masonic Temple will be given on Friday. Celebration of Barry’s life will be held at the Fundy Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, January 18, at 11:00 am. Private interment will take place at a later date. Donations in Barry’s memory can be made to the St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation (Breast Care). To send a message of condolence please visit www.fundyfuneralhome.com. The family would like to take this opportunity to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of Oncology at the SJRH, Extramural Team Saint John unit and the SJPD for their compassionate care. Your kindness will never be forgotten.
