Obituary for Kenneth Sleigh

SLEIGH, KENNETH DARYL - At the Saint John Regional Hospital, after a period of illness, Kenneth D. Sleigh, loving husband of nearly 60 years to Josephine (Burns) Sleigh, passed away on Tuesday, March 26, 2013. Born in Saint John, NB, he was the son of the late Samuel and Annie (Saunders). Ken was a school bus driver in Rothesay for a number of years earlier in his career. He then became a Stevedore at the Port of Saint John for many years, retiring early due to health issues. He was a proud member of ILA #273 and also was a spokesman for the Senior Members of the local. Volunteering was a huge part of Ken’s life, but his first love was his family. He was so supportive and loved them all unconditionally. Ken was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend. In addition to his loving wife “Jo”, Ken is survived by his son Daryl (Cathy) of Halifax, NS, daughter Wendy Sleigh of Saint John, NB, sisters Pearl Board of Saint John, NB, Jean Fry of Halifax, NS and Marilyn Roberts (Fred) of Grand Bay-Westfield, NB; his grandchildren Samuel and Leah; sister-in-law Alta Marr and many cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Ken was also predeceased by his brothers Walter Sleigh, Leonard Sleigh, John Marr and Charles Marr; sisters Viola Cassidy and Florence Bell; and several step brothers, step sisters, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Arrangements under the care and direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road. (646-2424) where the family will receive visitors Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The Funeral will be held Saturday, March 30, 2013 from Fundy Funeral Home Chapel at 1 pm followed by a reception at the funeral home. The committal will take place in the Spring. Donations in Ken's memory can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or charity of the donors’ choice. On-line condolences may be placed at www.fundyfuneralhome.com
