Obituary for Theresa "Terri" Chouinard

CHOUINARD (MASON), THERESA "TERRI" LUCY - After a courageous battle with cancer, Terri passed away peacefully at the Palliative Care Unit of the Regional Hospital with her family at her side. Terri entered God's warm embrace on February 17, 2013. Terri was the best friend and beloved wife of 42 years to John Peter Chouinard and the loving mother of Sarah Elizabeth (Steve) Chouinard-Horne and Jonathan Peter (Angie) Chouinard. Terri leaves behind two sisters, Kandais Marie (Kevin) Lawson and Elizabeth Jane (Scott) MacCollum as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and many, many friends. Born in Saint John to the late Joseph R. Mason and Myrna Elizabeth (Kearns) Mason, Terri attended local schools and graduated from St. Vincent's High School. She retired from the Roman Catholic Diocese of Saint John where she was employed as the private secretary to two consecutive Bishops. Terri was a long time active member of the Catholic Cursillo Movement in her younger years and a faithful member of the World Christian Life Community since 2000. Her local community was Earthen Vessel CLC whose members Terri loved deeply. She had a great love and devotion to Our Blessed Mother. Terri was a devout Catholic and an active member of St. Joseph's Parish, Loch Lomond where she was a Eucharistic Minister and the Parish liaison to Aid's Saint John. Terri envisioned a monthly "Soup Pot Day" where Parishioners would come together to cook nourishing homemade soups for the Aid's Saint John clients as well as a weekly schedule of faithful Parishioners who would bake and supply cookies. Terri was a truly amazing woman with a gentle spirit who touched many people during her life. She had a tender heart and she was a good listener and trustworthy confidant. She was selfless, compassionate, faith filled and loving. Terri had great empathy for others, especially the marginalized. Terri's family welcomes all who loved her at the Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John on Tuesday, February 19, 2013 from 2 t0 9 PM. Terri's Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Church, 4347 Loch Lomond Road Saint John at 11 AM on Wednesday, February 20, 2013. A reception will follow immediately after Mass in the H.O.P.E. Centre. Interment will take place at St. Williams' Cemetery in St. Martins in the spring. In lieu of flowers, remembrances would be appreciated to the H.O.P.E. Centre at St. Joseph's, Aid's Saint John, The Kennebecasis Valley Extramural Program and/or the Palliative Care Unit at the Saint John Regional Hospital.
