Obituary for John Corey

John Jacob Corey, a life–long resident of Butternut Ridge (Havelock), N.B., passed away February 12, 2017 at the Jordan Lifecare Centre, The Glades, N.B. Born March 31, 1933, he was the son of Roy Manford Corey (1890–1956) and Annie Isabelle McFarland (1894–1947).

He was predeceased by his sister Frances D. Corey (1932–2009).

John was an artist, an art teacher and a director of the UNB Art Centre. He studied at the Art Students League of New York. He was a consultant on New Brunswick heritage and the restoration of historic properties for the province and in the private sector. His interest in, and promotion of textiles was an important contribution to the history of the art of quilting in New Brunswick. John travelled extensively on this continent and in Europe. During the summer months, he was devoted to his passion for gardening and he welcomed friends and visitors to his extensive flower and vegetable gardens.

Sincere appreciation is extended to the staff of the Jordan Lifecare Centre and to the numerous friends who visited John during his illness.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Salisbury Funeral Home (372–4800). There will be no visitation and a memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.

If desired, donations in memory of John may be made to the Loyalist Cemetery, Havelock, NB, the Havelock Memorial Hall or to a charity of the donor's choice. www.keirsteads.ca
