Obituary for Catherine MacIntosh

1919 – 2017
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Catherine Esther MacIntosh announce her passing in her 98th year on February 15, 2017 at Foyer Notre–Dame–de–Lourdes in Bathurst, NB. Born in Sunnyside, Restigouche County, she was a daughter of the late Lester and Emiline (MacLean) Smearer–Freer.

She came to Bathurst as a young woman and following her marriage to Gordon MacIntosh in 1938 she moved to the family farm in nearby Rosehill. She was an excellent homemaker and cook. Her hobbies included painting; landscape and flowers; swimming; crafts; knitting and sewing. She loved to travel, Hawaïi, Vancouver and Florida being among the destinations. She was a member of United Church of Canada a life member of the South Tetagouche women's institute and belonged to the South Tetagouche United Church women.

Esther is survived by twin sons: Donald (Lorraine) of South Tetagouche and Glendon (Patricia) of Rosehill; two daughters: Norma (Ben) Carson of New Glasgow, NS and Sandra (James) Ward of Janeville; nine grandchildren; twelve great–grandchildren and one great–great–grandchildren and daughter–in law, Beverly (MacIntosh) Branch.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Gordon in 2001; a sister, Mabel and a brother, Alvin; stepfather, John Freer.

For those who wish remembrances may be made to the South Tetagouche United Church Cemetery, the General Fund at First United Church in Bathurst or a charity of the donor's choice.

The family wishes to extend profound thanks to the compassionate staff of Foyer Notre–Dame–de–Lourdes and Dr. Barnhill for health care and support over the years. A special thanks to staff that walked the journey with us the last few days.

Visitation will be held on Saturday February, 18, 2017 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Funeral service will be held on Sunday, February 19 2017 at 3 pm from First United Church, Bathurst.
