Obituary for Charles Morton

(1911–2017)
FORD BANK, NB – Charles “Charlie” Barkley Morton passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, on Sunday, April 9th, 2017, after a long and healthy life of 105 years. Born in West Branch, he was the son of the late Smith and May (MacLeod) Morton.

As a young man, Charlie worked as a woodsman in the lumber camps in northwestern New Brunswick with other Kent County workers; he loved telling stories of his days in the lumber camps. Later in life, Charlie was a farmer and finally, before retiring, worked as a truck driver. Charlie always enjoyed receiving visits from his friends and family and he was always up for a good card game.

Charlie leaves to mourn his three daughters, Susie Campbell (Allison) of Fords Mills, Maisie Hicks (Delbert) and Cherry Fahey (Wayne), both of McKees Mills; his seven grandchildren, Randy Campbell (Susan), Doug Hicks (Heather), Will Hicks and Steve Hicks (Joy), Nick Fahey (Rachel), Shannon Fraser (Darren) and Josh Fahey (Angella); his twelve great–grandchildren, Wade, Brittany, Meaghan, Matt, Chad, Phoebe, Kyle, Brody, Mack, Vanessa, Meghan and Hunter; and his one great–great–grandchild, Mila.He will also be missed by his two sisters, Mildred Girvan (late Garnett) of Victoria County and Edna Palmer (late Herbert) of Moncton; as well as by his many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Charlie is predeceased by his beloved wife of over 60 years Maude (Morton); five sisters, Marion, Ruby, Eva, Bertha and Laura; and three brothers, Earl, Lloyd and Carman.

Visitation will be held at Thompson’s Funeral Home in Richibucto on Friday from 7 to 9 pm. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, April 15th, 2017 at 2:00 pm, Zion Presbyterian Church, West Branch with Rev. "Sandy" A.D. Sutherland and Rev. Winston Parks officiating.

Donations in Charlie's memory may be made to the Zion Presbyterian Church or Cemetery fund, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.

A special thank you from the family goes out to Jenny Beck, who was the caregiver for Charlie for 17 years, as well as to all others who helped to look after Charlie over the years; your wonderful care is truly appreciated.

Arrangements are in the professional care of Thompson’s Funeral Home, Richibucto (523–4252).
