Obituary for Dr. Virginia Campbell

Sadly we announce the passing of Dr. Virginia Anne Campbell, which occurred at the SJRH on Tuesday, April 18th, 2017. Born in Saint John on August 12, 1930, Virginia was the daughter of the late J. Packard Campbell and Mary Campbell (Kierstead).

A passionate educator and lifelong learner, Virginia spent over 40 years working and teaching in the fields of public health, nutrition, pediatrics and home economics. She was graduate of Acadia University and returned there as the Dean of Public Health and Nutrition, she also received her PhD at Penn State University. She served on several Professional Associations in Canada and the United States including the President’s Advisory Committee on Public Health in Washington, DC. Her love of knowledge was only surpassed by her love for family, friends, nature, painting and the performing arts.

Virginia is survived by her sister Patricia Cawthorne and brother John Campbell (Linda), nieces Bonnie Seely (Brent), Mary Cawthorne, Laurie Harrison, Laura Steele (Burke) and nephews John Robert Cawthorne (Lisa), John Campbell Jr. (Kelly), Andrew Campbell and many great–nieces, great–nephews and cousins.

A special thank you to the staff of the SJRH Dialysis Unit for the compassion and care provided over the years.

Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Rd., Saint John, (646–2424) with visitation being held on Sunday, April 23rd from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8. Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, April 24th in the Chapel at Fundy Funeral Home. Internment will take place at Cedar Hill Extension, 1650 Manawagonish Rd.
