Obituary for Bernard "Mike" Chippin

Bernard “Mike” Chippin was born on October 1st 1930. He passed away in his home, in Fredericton, New Brunswick, surrounded by his family after a courageous fight with cancer at the age of 87 on Wednesday, November 22nd 2017.

In 1939, his father Simon Chippin founded the Victory Meat Market and later, Bernard and his brother Harry took over the business. The Victory was very important to Bernard, as it was a part of his everyday life. He was a humble businessman and made sure to stay active in the business up until his last days. Bernard also founded Chippin Brothers Abattoir, and H&B Reality with his brother Harry. Bernard was hardworking, strong, self–made, self–reliant, loving and gentle. He loved his family and was deeply devoted to his wife Valerie of 60 years right until the end. He was always good natured and kind hearted to others. He valued his family and enjoyed spending time with them. The Sgoolai Israel Synagogue in Fredericton was very important to Bernard and he made sure the Synagogue was thriving and available to the community. He was also an active member of B’nai Brith. Bernard will be sorely missed by his family, friends and employees.

A Beloved Husband to the love of his life Valerie for 60 years. A loving and devoted father and father-in-law to Natalie Chippin–Lipkowitz (Sid) and Seth (Linda). A cherished and proud Grandfather to Jaclyn and Rachel Lipkowitz. Predeceased by his parents Simon and Dora Chippin, brother’s Max and Joe, sister–in–laws Shelia, Jenny and Lillian, brother-in–law Irwin Rosenzweig. Survived by his Brother Harry Chippin and sister Betty Rosenzweig. Brother-in–law Kenny and sister-in–law Francie Frank and several caring nieces and nephews.

Special thank you to Elaine, the Oncology nurse at Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital, all staff at Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital, Hospice Fredericton, Dr. Jennifer Gillis–Doyle, Palliative Care Consultant at the Horizon Health Network, the kind nurses from the Extra–Mural Program and Randy Geneau, Jackie Latina and Jennifer. A very special thanks to the Wellness Connection Team Teena, Melissa and Trudy for their warmth and care.

A funeral service will be held in Toronto at Steeles Memorial Chapel, 350 Steeles Ave W, Thornhill Ontario, L4J6S6 on Friday, November 24th, at 12:30 pm. The Victory Meat Market will be closed on Friday, November 24th, 2017 from 12:30 to 1:30 pm.

Memorial donations can be made to The Canadian Friends Of The Israel Guide Dog Center For The Blind (https://israelguidedog.ca), the Sgoolai Israel Synagogue Fredericton (www.jewishfredericton.com) and Hospice Fredericton (http://hospicefredericton.ca).Online remembrances may be made at www.mcadamsfh.com
