Obituary for Frederick McRae

With broken hearts, the family of Frederick Gerald McRae, husband of Phyllis (Queen) McRae, announce his passing on January 15, 2018 at Shannex (Tucker Hall). Born August 19, 1937 at Tignish, PEI, he was the youngest child of 11 children of the late Fred and Eva McRae.

Fred held several jobs throughout his life: he began at East Saint John Hardware delivering parcels on his bicycle at the age of 15, then did deliveries for hardware stores Fairville Mercantile, Thornes, and Fred J. Watts, then moved to Eastern Bakeries delivering bread to stores, and finally to Canada Post for three years as a rural route driver in the Grand Bay Area, and then as a Letter Carrier for 27 years in the Saint John area, retiring from Canada Post in 2002. He enjoyed walking, camping, puttering in his workshop and doing puzzles with his wife.

In addition to his loving wife Phyllis of 61 years, he is survived by two sons, Fred (Debbie) MacRae of Rothesay, NB and Kevin (Kate) MacRae of Grand Bay–Westfield, NB; and a daughter Sue (Roly) Palmer of Grand Bay–Westfield, NB; as well as two grandsons, Tom (Katie Slater) MacRae and Greg (Kristina) MacRae and their children (Zack, Josh, Isabella, Danika, Alaska and special great–grandson Jebediah who loved to visit Grampie Fred); two step–granddaughters, Carol (Ed) DeSaulniers and their children (Kimberley, Eddie, Cassie, Jamie and Riley) and Sharon McKay; along with several nieces and nephews. Fred is also survived by sisters Bertha Winott (Alden), Phyllis Tuplin (Gordon) and Marjorie McRae, brother Ron (Pauline) McRae and sister–in–law Marie (Charlie) McRae.

He was predeceased by brothers Earl (Italy WWII), John (Elsie), Charlie, Walter (Sandra) and sisters Marion (Erland) Winters, Kathleen (Fred) Heaton.

The family extend their gratitude for the care provided by the staff of Shannex (Tucker Hall) over the past 16 months.

Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634–7424) with visitation Tuesday, January 16 from 6 to 8 and Wednesday, January 17 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8. The funeral service will be held from Brenan’s Chapel on Thursday, January 18 at 12 PM. Interment will take place at Greenwood Cemetery.

For those who wish, remembrances can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society– Lewy Body Dementia or any charity of the donor’s choice. Online condolences may be placed at www.BrenansFH.com
