Obituary for Robert Tuck

Q.C., BBA., LLB., C.Arb.
1953–2018
It is with deep sadness that the Tuck family announces the passing of their beloved husband, son, brother, and friend, Robert (Bob) after a short yet intense battle with cancer. Bob traveled to heaven from the Toronto General Hospital on Saturday, January 27th, 2018.

Bob was born and resided in Moncton most of his life with the exception of a few years in Saint John and most currently Grand Barachois, the son of Mary "Alice" Tuck (Sullivan) and the late Leonard George Tuck(1993).

He leaves behind his mother, his wife of 38 years, Margot (Mollins), his brother James (Mischka), and his sisters Debra McCabe (Jordan), Joan Atkins (Andrew), all of Moncton along with nieces and nephews whom he loved and cherished as his own.

Bob enjoyed a long and distinguished career which began after graduating from Harrison Trimble High School (1971) receiving his BBA (1975) followed by his LLB (1978) from the University of New Brunswick Fredericton. A strong dedicated work ethic and a supportive wife were the keystones to both Bob’s professional career and personal life.

Bob forayed into politics while serving on UNB’s Student Government. This acted as a catalyst to future involvement as President of Municipal, Provincial and Federal Liberal Parties. Bob actively served on numerous Boards of Directors, too numerous to list, ranging in endeavours including business, health, community development and philanthropy.

Along his career path, Bob was appointed as a Chartered Arbitrator to the Arbitration Mediation Institution of Canada; distinguished as Queen’s Council; active member and President of Moncton Barristers Society, NB Law Society, and Canadian Bar Association; Director of National Insurance Management Association; Chair of Criminal Code Mental Disorder Review Board; Special Crown Prosecutor for the Provincial Department of Justice and of the Office of the Attorney General.

His partnership in the law firm of McGrath Tuck was a source of pride for Bob. He practiced law including criminal, labour, civil, commercial and property. His partner and friend Ed McGrath and support colleague Joanne Hamilton both held a special place in his heart. When called to the court of Queen’s Bench Family Division, (2003) he was extremely honoured.

Bob viewed his responsibility to the Family Court he served as more of a vocation than a profession. Not only had he passion for the law but also his compassion for those who appeared before him brought him both consternation and solace as he worked within the confines of the law. He cared deeply, especially for the children who found themselves in desperate situations. Bob appreciated and respected his judicial colleagues and friends at all levels of the system especially the mentorship provided by his Chief Justice David Smith.

As Bob anxiously prepared for his approaching retirement, he honed his talent for photography. His focus was capturing the beauty of nature especially birds in flight and the seashore. Bob’s home is filled with various art pieces and artifacts representative of a life of extensive travel which he planned to continue. After a career of unwavering dedication, he was anticipating "Savouring the Moment" with his "Maggie", his love of 44 years.

Bob was not yet ready to leave us as he felt he had so much more to accomplish in his life but faith teaches us that often the gentle souls of this world are sent to a higher calling in a place we mortals have yet to comprehend.

The Family will receive relatives and friends at Tuttle Brothers & Riverview Funeral Home, 214 Pine Glen Rd. Riverview, NB. on Monday, February 5, 2018 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm. The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Augustine's Roman Catholic Church, Corner of Mountain Rd and Dominion St. Moncton on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at 1:30pm.

Donations in Robert's memory made to the Friends of the Moncton Hospital Foundation or to your local SPCA would be appreciated by his family.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Tuttle Brothers & Riverview Funeral Home 214 Pine Glen Rd. Riverview, NB(506) 857–9544 Online condolences can be made at www.tuttlefuneralhome.ca
