Obituary for Russell Miller

It is with profound sadness and appreciation for a life well–lived that we announce the passing of Russell Miller. Russell died peacefully and suddenly at home on February 9, 2018 in his ninetieth year.

He was the beloved husband of Connie (Kierstead) and loving father of Janet (Brad Bustard) Miller of Rothesay, Gordon (Karen Stevenson) Miller of Calgary, Cathy (Jeff) Martin of Fredericton, and Suzanne (Tom) Blackwell of Halifax. He was very proud of his four grandchildren Alison (Mike) Wong of Halifax, David Miller (Sarah) of Calgary, Alex Martin of Fredericton, and Janice (Jackson) Young of Petawawa and one great-grandchild, Cynthia Miller. He is also survived by his older brother, Ronald Miller, sister–in–law, Marlene Miller, brother–in–law, David Kierstead, sister–in–law, Shirley Kierstead, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, Viola and Charles, he was predeceased by his brothers, Arnold Miller, Gordon Miller, Charles Miller, brother–in–law Robert Kierstead, and sister–in–law Rheta Appleby.

Russell was born in Bayswater, NB on October 30, 1928. He retired from a career at Imperial Oil in 1983 and later operated Curler’s Corner supply shop with his partner, Jack Boyle at Thistle Saint–Andrews Curling Club. Russell kept active his entire life. He was a long–standing member of Thistle Saint–Andrews Curling Club in Saint John, Hampton Golf Course, and the Men’s Club at St. David’s United Church of Rothesay. He was a former member of the Beaus and Belles Square Dancing Club and Hampton Curling Club. Russ contributed to the community through a number of organizations and as the clerk of the Village of Fairvale.

Russ enjoyed many outdoor activities, including camping, fishing and hunting. He loved curling, golfing, playing the guitar, wood working, gardening, tracking the weather, and watching sports. Over the years, Russ and Connie trailered at Sunrise Shores, Hilltop and Pirate Cove campgrounds. He cherished time spent sharing stories and laughs with family and friends.

He represented the province of New Brunswick at four National Seniors and one Masters Curling competitions, aced the seventh hole at Hampton Golf Course at 84 years young and survived cheering for the New York Yankees at Fenway Park.

Thank you to the team of medical experts who helped manage Russell’s health, especially his family doctor, Elaine Davies, and her staff of dedicated professionals.

Resting at Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis (849–2119) with visiting on Tuesday, February 13 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8PM. Funeral Service will be held at St. David's United Church, 7 Gondola Point Road, Rothesay on Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at 2PM, followed by a reception.

In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bobby's Hospice or to the charity of the donor's choice, would be greatly appreciated. Online condolences can be made at www.kennebecasisfh.com
