Obituary for Jean Hood

The passing of our beautiful mother Jean Ann Maude (MacKinnon) Hood, of Fredericton, NB, wife of the late William “Bill” Hood, occurred on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on September 24, 1934 in Stanley, NB, she was a daughter of the late John and Mary (Harvey) MacKinnon.

At an early age Jean learned the most important things were her church and her family. Jean worked as a front store clerk for the Johnston’s Pharmacy in Stanley. She was a member of the Stanley Agriculture Society # 35, superintendent of Sunday school and member of TOPS weight loss organization. She was also a former elder in Stanley. The canteen in the Stanley Fair Grounds was even named after Jean, knows as “Jean’s Canteen.” Jean will be remembered for her cooking, knitting, jig saw puzzles and love for word searches.

Jean is survived by her daughters, Colleen Bouchard (Norman) of Fredericton, NB and Stephanie Deurloo (Dirk) of Geary, NB; her son, Christopher Hood (Cynthia) of Fredericton, NB; grandchildren, Joshua, Matthew and Meridith Hood, Melissa Moriarty (Chris), Billy Delong (Shelby), Maggie Delong (Courtney), Pieter and Jonathan Deurloo; sister, June Elliott (Fred) of Tay Creek, NB; brothers, Douglas MacKinnon (Shirley) of Williamsburg, NB and Stanley “Chub” MacKinnon (Deanne) of Mactaquac, NB; sisters–in–law, Marion MacKinnon, Judy MacKinnon and Bev Fraser; brother–in–law, Darrell Hood (Joan) of Stanley, NB; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, Jean was predeceased by her infant daughter, Deborah Hood; her infant grandson, Scott Delong; sisters, Mavis Mazerall, Pearl Green and Shirley MacDonald and brothers, Wendall, William, David “Dick” and Clifford.

Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB on Thursday, March 1, 2018 from 6 to 9 pm. A Funeral Service will be held at York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Friday, March 2, 2018 at 2 pm with Rev. Basil Lowery officiating and Rev. Gordon Mowry assisting. Pallbearers are Shawn MacKinnon, Terry Hebert, Trevor Elliott, Joe Hunter, Troy Bourque and Jordan Whitlock. Honourary Pallbearers are Kim Woodworth and Melissa Dufour. Interment will take place in St. Peter’s Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Stanley, NB at a later date.
