Obituary for Cleveland Jagoe

The death of Cleveland A. Jagoe of Bathurst, NB occurred on Tuesday, July 10th, 2018 at the Chaleur Regional Hospital at the age of 95 years. Born in Janeville, NB he was the eldest son of the late Stuart J. and Audrey E. (Scott) Jagoe.

Cleve was extremely proud to serve Queen and Country during WWII as a Nursing Orderly with the RCAMC (Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps), and later serving the North Shore Regiment Reserve as a Warrant Officer. He was Honorary Lifetime Member and Palm Leaf Meritorious Service Medal recipient of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #18, Bathurst, member of the Lodge St. John, No. 27, F+AM of the Masonic Order, a Luxor Shriner of the North Shore Shrine Club, member of the First United Church, Bathurst, NB, Bathurst UCT (United Commercial Travellers) and a recipient of the Freeman of the City (Bathurst, NB).

Cleve was an employee of Lounsbury Co. for over 39 years and was a Corps Commissionaire prior to retirement. He enjoyed many years of vegetable gardening, travelling and spending summers at the family cottage in Salmon Beach.

Often remembered for his many dedicated years of volunteering with various organizations, he was often heard saying he was much busier in retirement. He was known for his sharp mind and regaling stories of the war, local history and a wee bit of politics.

Cleve is survived by his wife of 75 years Alice P. Scott; six children: Kenneth Jagoe, Sherry Mitton (Gerald), Allen Jagoe (Nancy) all of Bathurst; Pamela Smith (Bayard) of Squamish, BC; Ashley Jagoe (Norma) of New Maryland, NB; and Dawn Bowie (Albert) of Maugerville, NB. 12 grandchildren and eight great–grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers Arthur Jagoe (Eileen) and Orin Jagoe (Shirley) both of Bathurst. One sister Verda Logan (Russell) of Dundee, Cape Breton, NS.

He was predeceased by sisters Mina Graham, Sadie Cormier, and Laura Branch.

As per Cleve's wishes his body has been donated to the Department of Medical Neuroscience at Dalhousie University. A memorial service will be held at First United Church, Bathurst on Sunday, July 15, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Blair Lewis officiating.

Donations in memory of Cleve can be made to First United Church (Bathurst), Luxor Shriners Transportation Fund or the Robert L. Knowles Veteran's Unit, Bathurst.

Arrangements are in the care of Elhatton Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst.
