Obituary for Betty Ross

It is with heavy hearts the family of Betty Marie Ross announces her sudden and unexpected passing on Sunday, August 5, 2018.

She was predeceased by her loving husband of 55 years Raymond earlier this year, her parents Emma and Howard Barnes of Port de Grave, NL and her brother Sterling Barnes of Gander, NL.

She is survived by her daughter Krista Nugent (Bill) of Saint John, son Darren and grandchildren Brendan and Sarah Ross of Sussex NB, and her brother Noel Barnes of Toronto.

Betty was born January 24, 1938 in English Harbour, Trinity Bay, Newfoundland. She was raised in Gander. Upon graduation from high school she moved to Moncton where she worked at Royal Trust and married. She and Ray then moved to Halifax where their children were born. The next move brought them to Saint John where she worked at the Saint John Airport for Avis and was well known by all.

Betty’s family was her greatest joy and she was so proud of everyone. She loved tagging along and providing cook outs on all the hunting and fishing excursions with Brendan and Darren and hearing about Sarah’s accomplishments in school and sports. She loved her sailing trips with Krista and Bill and looked forward to any adventure. She was always outdoors and loved nature and bird watching. She loved riding her motorcycle in earlier days and her bicycle in later years.

Like her beloved husband Ray, her friends were countless and of every age. She made everyone feel special and took great interest in whatever they were doing. She was happy and content living out her retirement years at home in Riley Brook with Ray where she was an active and supportive member of the community.

Resting at the Tobique Chapel in Plaster Rock, NB, with visitation on Thursday, August 9, 2018 from 3 to 7 pm. Funeral service will be held on Friday, August 10, 2018 at 12 pm from the Tobique Chapel. Mr. Emile Arsenault officiating. Interment will follow at the Riley Brook Cemetery with Reception at the Riley Brook Hall.

Donations may be made in Betty’s memory to the Riley Brook Cemetery or a charity of your choice.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Brunswick Funeral Home, Perth–Andover and Plaster Rock.
