Obituary for John MacLean

It is with profound sadness that the family of John "Jack" MacIntyre MacLean announces his passing on Monday, August 13, 2018 at the Moncton Hospital. Born on June 10, 1940 in Moncton, he was the son of the late Roderick "R.D." and Anne (MacIntyre) MacLean.

After graduating from the Nova Scotia Technical College in 1966, Jack worked in the private sector for a few years, before opening John M. MacLean Management Ltd., an engineering company he owned and operated until his passing.

Jack is survived by his loving wife Jane Mitton–MacLean of Moncton and children David of Saint John, Tony (Tina Siauw) of Calgary and Rachel (Andy) Telzer, of Oakville, Ont.Grampy will also be fondly missed by the four granddaughters he adored: Marisa and Vanessa Telzer of Oakville, Ont., and Kate and Samantha MacLean of Calgary. He is also survived by brother Roderick (Janet) of Ottawa; sister Andrea MacLean–Holohan of Quispamsis; brother Donald (Loretta) of Shediac; brother–in–law Grant (Cathie) Mitton of Riverview and sister–in–law Susan Carroll and her partner George Wilson also of Riverview and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Jack was predeceased by brothers–in–law Brendan Holohan and Robert Carroll and father– and mother–in–law Ronald and Mavis Mitton.

Aside from his family, Jack’s greatest passion was salmon fishing, where he spent many hours on different rivers in New Brunswick, Quebec and as far away as Iceland.

Anyone who knew Jack quickly learned he did not suffer fools gladly, but he did thoroughly enjoy a vigorous debate about his two favourite subjects: politics and sports.

He enjoyed travelling with Jane, including their annual trip to Arizona, often accompanied by children and grandchildren and friends. He enjoyed playing golf, especially when there was a side bet to be had; was a fan of harness racing and former owner and breeder of standardbred racehorses and was a fervent supporter of the arts.

Jack’s family is looking forward to sharing fond memories with family and friends at Fergusons Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858–1995) on Friday, August 24, 2018 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral service will be held Saturday, August 25 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s United Church, 404 Cleveland Ave., Riverview. Interment will be in Wesleyan Union Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Terry Fox Foundation, (terryfox.org) or Terry Fox Foundation Suite 493, 605 Prospect St. Fredericton, NB E3B 6B8 or a charity of the donor’s choice. Online condolences for the family may be shared at www.fergusonsfuneralhome.com
