Obituary for Carl Parsons

PARSONS, CARL

Carl William Parsons of Plaster Rock, NB, passed away at home Friday, October 5, 2018. Carl was born in Plaster Rock on January 11, 1928. He was the son of William "Bill" and Lillian (Bowser) Parsons.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Gene Parsons (Jensen); daughters Deborah Giberson (Terry) of Bathurst, NB, and Jennifer Hambrook (Jeffery) of Blackville NB; his grandchildren Emily Legacy (Marc) of Bathurst, NB, John Giberson (Leigh) of Quispamsis, NB, Daniel Hambrook of Ottawa, ON, and Benjamin Hambrook of Fredericton NB; and his sister Shirley Yeomans of Plaster Rock, NB.

Carl was predeceased by his parents, his sisters Irene Corbin and Donna Hughes; and brothers Ivan and Max Parsons.

Carl was a devoted family man who readily gave his time and energy to helping everyone within his immediate and extended family, and friends around Plaster Rock. He worked as a barber in Plaster Rock for 68 years before retiring in 2014. He was a lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion Marble Arch Branch 29, serving on the executive and volunteering many hours to the continuation of this institution. He also served on many boards and committees working towards the betterment of the community. A service of note is the over 50 years he co–ordinated and administered the Plaster Rock Protestant Cemetery. He was also a lifetime member of the New Brunswick Registered Barbers Association and an Honorary Lifetime member of the New Brunswick Progressive Conservative Party. He has been honoured with a Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal, Lieutenant Governor of New Brunswick Award, the Commemorative Medal for the 125th Anniversary of the Confederation of Canada, and the Key to the Village of Plaster Rock for his lifetime of service. Besides his love of family, commitment to work, and the community of Plaster Rock; Carl enjoyed music, dancing, fishing, carpentry and camping.

Funeral service was held on Tuesday, October 9 at 2 PM at the Plaster Rock United Baptist Church. Mr. Kris Shoemaker officiated. Interment followed at the Plaster Rock Protestant Cemetery. Music for the service was by Mrs. Susan Geneau and Carl's grandson, John Giberson. The eulogy was given by Terry Giberson. Pallbearers were Carl's grandchildren, Emily Legacy, John Giberson, Daniel Hambrook, and Benjamin Hambrook, along with David Parsons and Kevin Payne. Arrangements were entrusted to Brunswick Funeral Home, Perth–Andover and Plaster Rock.
