Obituary for Jack Laycock

Unexpectedly, at Saint John Regional Hospital, November 15, 2018, Jack Forrester Laycock, husband of Marion Ruth (Dalrymple) Laycock, of St. Stephen, N.B., in his 87th year. Born July 14, 1932 in Barrie, Ontario, to Charles Henry Laycock and Jessie Metcalfe.

Jack is survived by wife, Ruth; sons, John S. Laycock (Elenor), Pickering, Ont., and James H. Laycock (Margaret), Riverview, N.B.; grandchildren: Jake M. Laycock (Rachel), Oromocto, N.B., Erica Laycock, Toronto, Ont., Jordan J. Laycock, Lower Sackville, N.S., Jerret C.E. Laycock (Vikki), Halifax, N.S., Claire Shane (Johnathan), Edmonton, Alta., and Colin Laycock, Pickering, Ont.; and two great–grandsons, Huxley and Alexander.

Jack worked in Summerside, PEI and owned businesses in Halifax/Dartmouth, NS before coming to St. Stephen in 1973. He joined the staff of St. Croix Printing & Publishing in 1977, as advertising manager and was a driving force in the business until his retirement.

Jack was active in the community with the Rotary Club of St. Stephen–Milltown, the St. Stephen & Area Chamber of Commerce (past president) and was an early supporter of the International Festival. He served as Governor of Rotary District 7810 for 1979–80. A four–time Paul Harris Rotary Fellow, Jack was a tireless worker for Rotary’s Polio Plus program (to eradicate polio world–wide). He was a proud recipient of the Rotary International Service Above Self award for humanitarian work.

Per Jack’s request, there will be no service. Burial to take place at a later date at United Church Cemetery, East Gore, N.S.

Memorial donations may be made to Lincourt Manor, St. Stephen, or Charlotte County SPCA, St. Stephen. Online condolences to the family can be made at www.mehanfuneralhome.ca
